2019, 22nd September, NABUCO Division A & C Challenge,

The final part of the 2019 NABUCO Divisional Badminton Challenge came to an end at the
Constant Sprint Golf Club Badminton Hall on Sunday night producing one triple winner and
one double winner.
Dennis Coke marked his return from a short layoff to win the triple in fine style. He first
prevailed over Matthew Lee 21-19; 21-18, coming from behind in both games and eventually
winning the nailbiter in the Open Men’s Singles. Coke then teamed with Shezelle McTyson in
the Open Mixed Doubles to silence the high riding top seeds Matthew Lee and Katherine Wynter
21-17; 21-18. He then teamed with long time partner Anthony McNee to win the Open Men’s
Doubles over the unseeded pair of Kemar Valentine and veteran Albert Myers 22-20; 21-13 who
had surprised all and got to the final beating the second seeds. The other winner in the Open
Division was former National Champion and top seeded Katherine Wynter who warded off
the challenge of young Tahlellah Townsend 21-12; 21-9 in the Women’s Singles.
Stephanie-Imani Brown won the C Division double. Her first win came in the Mixed Doubles
event where she teamed with former Oberlin High School star Chevaughn Schleifer to prevail
21-17; 21-18 over second seeded Adam Taylor and Breanna Bisnott. Later she outlasted the
hard hitting young top seed Tahlellah Townsend 21-13; 21-13 in an energy filled C Division
Women’s Singles final.
Other C Division winners included Stephen Lue-Yen in the Men’s Singles who in his fourth
three game marathon of the tournament, coming from behind to prevail 20-22; 22-20; 21-16
over Chevaughn Schleifer. Daryl Branford and Andy Jia won the Men’s Doubles crown over
Malik Brown and the energetic Chevaughn Schleifer 21-19; 21-19. Unseeded Breanna Bisnott
and Aaliyah Walker won the Women’s Doubles title in the C Division by beating second seeds
Alexandra Beckford and Michele Champagnie 21-19;

The next NABUCO Badminton tournament will be the Age Group Challenge set to go off in
February of 2020.
