NABUCO Age Challenge 2020 Week1
2020 , 1st February NABUCO Age Challenge - U11, U15, U19
The first half of the NABUCO Age Group Badminton Challenge came to an end at the Constant
Sprint Golf Club Badminton Hall on Sunday night producing a Quadruple Winner, Rihanna
Rust a Triple Winner, Amir McBean and two double Winners Zachary Lim-Sang and
Tahlellah Townsend.
Thirteen year old Rihanna Rust won an incredible 4 titles. Three of those were in her U15 age
group but she was good enough to reach the finals of two U19 events winning one for a total of
4 titles. She first brushed aside Jade Ranger 21-6; 21-3 in the U15 Girls Singles then teamed
with Jade to easily win the U15 Girls Doubles winning 21-3;21-8 over Gabrielle Bailey and
Destiny Frater. Rihanna then partnered with Zachary Lim-Sang to win the U15 Mixed Doubles
title 21-5; 21-7 over Daniel Persad and Destiny Frater. Zachary then completed his Double
Championship by winning the Boys Singles over Jorie McBean 21-15; 21-9. Rihanna after
completing the Triple in her age division took on the big girls in the U19 division by Teaming
with Tahlellah Townsend to win the U19 Girls Doubles over Breanna Bisnott and Aallyah Walker.
Rihanna and Tahlellah lost the first game 17-21 but roared back to win the next two 21-15 and
21-17 in an tense and exciting match. In her fifth final Rihanna played her U19 Doubles partner
Tahlellah Townsend who won 21-12; 21-13 to complete her own Double Championship.
Amir McBean won a Triple championship. He partnered with eight year old Diana Hanson to
win the U11 Mixed Doubles title in an exciting thriller 15-21; 25-23; 21-14 over Phillip Hawthorn
and Dayley DaCosta. Amir then teamed up with his brother Jorie to win the U15 Boys Doubles
with a 21-11; 21-11 over Nicholas Campbell and Daniel Persad. Amir then won the U11 Boys
Singles by default when his opponent was unable to compete.
Other Winners were:
Sean Clarke Jnr over Kyle-Christian Sarju 19-21;21-19;21-19 in an nail biting slugfest in the U19
Boys Singles
Matthew Gibbs and Kyle-Christian Sarju over Romario McLymont and Adam Taylor 21-14; 23-21
in the U19 Boys Doubles.
Adam Taylor and Breanna Bisnott over Tijae Hinds and Leah-Ann Chai in the U19 Mixed
Doubles, 21-15; 15-21; 21-17 to complete the U19 Winners.
In the U11 Division the other Winner was Haley DaCosta over newcomer Diana Hanson 21-
6;21-7 in the U11 Girls Singles.
The NABUCO Age Group Badminton Challenge U13, U17 and Senior Competition begins next
weekend on Saturday February 8 at the Constant Sprint Golf Club Badminton Hall @ 9:00am.
Confirmed entries for the competition include Jamaica’s 2019 top male and female players
Matthew Lee and Tahlia Richardson, Jamaica’s #1 ranked Female Katherine Wynter, and former
National Champion Dennis Coke. Rhianna Rust and Tahlellah Townsend are confirmed among
the juniors.
