Part 2- 2019 NABUCO Age Group Challenge – U13, U17 & Seniors

The second half of the NABUCO Age Group Badminton Challenge came to an end at the
Constant Sprint Golf Club Badminton Hall on Sunday night producing one triple winner and
three double winners.
Fifteen year old student of St Andrew High, for Girls, Tahlellah Townsend won the triple by
winning the U17 Girls Singles over 12 year old Rihanna Rust 21-19, 21 12. She then teamed
with Breanna Bisnott to win the U17 Girls Doubles 21-16, 21-17 over Leah-Ann Chai and
Rust. Tahlellah then won the U17 Mixed Doubles with partner Aundre Brown in an exciting
21-13, 14-21, 21-19 cliffhanger which was voted the ‘Match of the Championships’.
The Double Winners were last week’s U19 triple winner Tahlia Richardson who stepped up to
the senior division, Kyle Sarju in the U17 Boys Division and Senior Olympic hopeful Dennis
Coke.
Tahlia Richardson won Women’s Singles 21-14, 17-21, 21-16 over long time rival Shezelle
McTyson and teamed with long time partner Matthew Yee-Grant to win the Senior Mixed
Doubles 21-17, 20-22, 22-20 in an emotially charged match over Che Beckford and Stacey-
Ann Blake. Kyle Sarju won a close U17 Boys Singles 20-22, 21-15, 21-8 match over young
Chrissano Hanna and then stormed back a few minutes later with teammate Tijae Hinds to
win another close encounter 18-21, 21-18, 21-11 over Matthew Gibbs and Chrissano
Hanna. Dennis Coke got his revenge on Matthew Lee who beat him two weeks ago at the
Tournament of Kings. Coke won 22-20, 21-14 this time. He then teamed up with long time
partner Anthony McNee to beat Matthew Lee and young Joel Angus 21-12, 12-21, 21-11
to keep their Olympic dream alive. Coke and McNee will launch their Olympic quest in three
weeks time at the Jamaica International against International competition.
Other winners were Jelanie Nelson in the U13 Boys Singles and Taina Daley and Shezelle
McTyson in the senior Womens Doubles.
